Vintage Beauty

sriley123@att.net (Susan Riley Photography) — Tue, 28 Apr 2026 20:53:14 GMT

]]>In this gallery of beautiful women (and a few fabulous men) from the 1910s and 1920s, I craft new images from photographs that originally had no color and I add what I think best suits each image, each subject. Some were in great need of restoration. This is all done in Photoshop. Researching each person is amazing, allowing me a brief glimpse of their world.

The portraits are then printed on fine art watercolor paper which offers a fine surface to hand paint and add the lustrous embellishments you see here. The videos are necessary to illustrate the majesty of the hand work. This era, leading into the Golden Age of Jazz fascinates me, keeps me up into the wee hours.

Some of the stories are heartbreaking, others tell of huge success and happiness. It feels important for me to get it right with the work on these icons of a day gone by; as if I want to please the original photographer and the women (and men) who posed for them. Please contact me for more information.Thank you for taking the time to view this gallery.

American Indians: Color

sriley123@att.net (Susan Riley Photography) — Tue, 16 Sep 2025 14:49:03 GMT

]]>These portraits of Native American Indians amaze me. Various photographers traveled far to photograph men, women and children, sometimes setting up backdrops that did not fit the setting. Some photos need restoring, all have color and some I have chosen to change the background. I am no expert on the cultures of the beautiful people who first lived on the lands we now call the United States. Their stories haunt me, the portraits, poignant. I hope my respect for the tribes comes through as I research the clothing, the adornments and the people themselves. As a photographer, I often wonder how the scene came to be. Did an assistant arrange the pose, the hair, the beads? Were the subjects told not to smile? How did they communicate? And, lastly, what did the person in the portrait think? I see vast strength in most of the photographs, but I can't help but think about the coming years when a way of life would be gone forever. Hopefully, I honor the memories. Susan Riley

Y.O. Ranch Trailrides

sriley123@att.net (Susan Riley Photography) — Sat, 09 Aug 2025 12:26:35 GMT

]]>The Y.O. Ranch is located in the beautiful Hill Country near Mt. Home, Texas. These photos span years of trailrides on the ranch and are just a sampling of what my camera captured on these awesome rides.

It was almost impossible at times to ride ahead of the herd, turning in my saddle to photograph what was behind me. It was so worth it!

Capt. Charles Schreiner purchased the land and brand of the Y.O. in 1880 and it remained in the family for many, many years. Please take a moment to visit the website: www.yoranch.com

Viewing the slideshow is a great way to see these images but you may also see them one at a time. Please contact me for more information. 210-601-2133

I hope you enjoy these images as much as I did making them.

Willow City Loop

sriley123@att.net (Susan Riley Photography) — Mon, 13 Nov 2023 08:21:38 GMT

]]>Willow City Loop is a scenic, winding, narrow road through some of the most beautiful Texas Hill country. The first photos were taken May 2010 when coreopsis were in full bloom and the landscape was washed in gold.

The second grouping was made April 2, 2012 when Texas Bluebonnets were at their peak after late winter rains brought an early spring.

And a third selection from April 2015 are added showing more bluebonnets, prickly poppies and Indian paintbrush.I hope you enjoy the splendor of our awesome wildflowers.

rock 'n Roll

sriley123@att.net (Susan Riley Photography) — Mon, 13 Nov 2023 08:17:07 GMT

]]>A few rock concerts here. Added as I can get to the scans. Led Zeppelin played San Antonio May 22, 1973 at the Convention Center. I shot slides, processing my own film. Unfortunately, the chemicals which were shared at the Southwest Craft Center had become depleted, were not labeled correctly and should have been tossed. The resulting images, while interesting, were quite disappointing. The reversal of shadowed areas went a dark green. I have chosen to play with the colors here.

I have quite a few of the Rolling Stones. I could have walked up and touched Mick Jagger's feet at the edge of the stage. It was a different time and you could wander anywhere you wanted.
